LifeStorage Centers, LLC is a privately held operator of self storage facilities headquartered in Barrington, Illinois focusing on all areas of professional self storage management.

The company developed its first storage facility in 2002 and has developed and built over 17 self storage facilities. We currently own and manage 17 locations operating throughout Chicagoland.

Records Management Sales Representative

Responsibility Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for local business development/sales, promoting the records management packages, identifying, qualifying and securing new business opportunities within their assigned geographic territory.

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prospect and qualify leads via telemarketing, referrals, networking, etc., to obtain maximum sales and potential volume from all markets in assigned territory. 
  • Set up appointments and make sales presentations. 
  • Participate in local marketing activities including trade shows, direct marketing programs and networking events to promote company services and identity.
  • Prepare customer proposals including, pricing quotations, terms of sales and transfer dates.
  • Plan, develop, and execute sales strategy tailored to potential clients’ needs.
  • Perform competitive surveys to include tracking the competition’s promotional matter, sales techniques, pricing and marketing policies.
  • Utilize resources and perform research to determine sales patterns and strategies.
  • Understand and maintain current knowledge on the company's products, services, features, benefits and applications for LifeStorage's services and systems. 
  • Convey basic record management and LifeStorage product knowledge to customers.
  • Initiate new customer set-up from logistics (pick-up/delivery, etc.) to coordinate billing implementation.
  • Perform start-up customer training for all new clients.
  • Utilize contact management (CRM) software to track leads and target market segments, ensuring accuracy of data.
  • Work with VP of Operations & Ownership to identify market changes and revise strategy.
  • Conform to company sales reporting guidelines.
  • Represent LifeStorage in trade associations.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years in Records Storage Management sales preferred.
  • This position will require exceptional proven and effective strategic sales and analytical skills along with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to translate customer needs into appropriate storage solutions.
  • Ability to interface effectively at all levels of LifeStorage personnel on a wide range of topics and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Multi-tasking is a daily requirement.
  • Must be highly competent with Windows, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc. Technical aptitude & CRM software experience required.
  • Strong presentation skills including solutions for prospects (in-person, via phone & internet).
  • The ideal applicant will have current Records Management Sales experience.

Qualifications:  In order to perform this job successfully, each individual must be able to perform the above mentioned job duties satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are a representation of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  LifeStorage seeks employees who have an entrepreneurial, pro-active and “can-do” positive attitude, who can work well under pressure and change while performing with the utmost of integrity.  Employment with LifeStorage is contingent on successful completion of a background screening, including criminal, driving and employment history.  Employees must have a current driver’s license and must be able to travel to various sites within the Chicagoland area.

Education and/or Experience:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or Management is required or equivalent work experience of 4 years and at 3-5 years of related experience in direct/regional sales is required.  Completion of sales training courses through industry leaders such as Huthwaite, Customer Centric Selling or Richardson.  Leadership skills and experience supervising others is helpful for growth potential.  Preference is given to those with college work or degrees.

Language Skills:  Candidates must have the ability to write/read/speak in English, complete various reports and correspondences, use a computer, ability to present information to management, clients, customers and the general public.  Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and procedural manuals, and maintenance instructions in English is required.  Candidates who are bi-lingual are encouraged to apply.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is required. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs is necessary. Most mathematical functions are performed in Excel or on a calculator; employees must be able to operate both.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and the ability to deal with problems, new challenges and change is essential.

Physical Demands:  The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and to be able to speak and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move file boxes up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.  Regular attendance at the assigned location is required.

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee will generally split time between an office environment and outside sales calls.  These outside tasks may need to be performed in either extreme cold or extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
